Ok, so here's my first blog entry ever.
Having a blog doesn't count as something I'm proud of. Actually, it's quite the contrary, but I needed a way to express my feelings and thoroughly discuss my emotional state.
Now, substitute "my feelings" with "the latest game development efforts," and "my emotional state" with "the techniques in the ActionScript environment," and you'll get a better picture of what's going on.
So, after figuring out that there is a scripting language involved in all of this, there's no need to elaborate on the introduction:
I'm a software developer, an ActionScript veteran, so to speak, and I've been coding for 23 years (my favorite number, btw)—sometimes for living, but mostly for fun.
But beyond anything else, I'm a passionate gamer, and over the course of time, I've learned what makes the great games great.
It's not C++, DirectX, nor it's an army of artists and programmers. It's not some kind of a "secret recipe" either. In fact, it's a little bit of everything—a well-balanced mix of all well-known ingredients.
So, you've guessed it right, I'm making a game in ActionScript. A game which you, guys and gals, will hopefully enjoy. It's not a huge AAA title (how could it be), nor it's a magnificent piece of indie desktop software (alas), but I'm sure most of you will have a blast playing it, nevertheless.
I'm going to use this blog to tell tales from a journey I've embarked on almost two years ago. Some of that time is well-spent on the game design and story line, but it wasn't until recently that I decided to start a working AS3 prototype.
Expect to see much more in the upcoming weeks, more info on the game, some concept art, dev notes, and commentary. Regardless, some of the topics will probably be more general in nature, broadly discussing AS3 development, coding trends and practices.. Even gaming!
For now, thank you for stopping by, and, as peaceful Dorons like to say: may the Sun glare in your back.
